Nourishing Hope, One Meal at a Time
Feeding Bodies and Souls
Over the past 3 years, The Desens House has built a recovery tribe over delicious plates of food! We've cooked together each week, sharing family recipes and food histories, while also building strong relationships with incredible people.
Since 2022, we have served over 6,800 meals - including dinners, breakfasts, and snacks - to individuals rebuilding their lives from substance use disorder and their supportive allies.
Here's a breakdown of our impact:
- 2,139 dinners: Weekly Monday night dinners have become a cornerstone of our community, fostering connection and shared experiences.
- 3,611 breakfasts: Nourishing our community members throughout the day.
- 534 snacks: Fueling minds and bodies during our community lecture series, "Facts & Snacks."
- Over 509 people: Enjoying pizza in the park at our monthly game nights.
We've successfully created a balanced community, with 50% of participants in recovery and 50% supportive community members. Our experienced recovery mentors have played a crucial role in guiding and inspiring those new to the journey!
